DOUBRAVKA NOVOTNÁ - SOPRANO
Doubravka Novotná graduated from the Brno Conservatory and later from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, where she studied under soprano Helena Kaupová. Over the course of her career, she has been nominated three times for the prestigious Thalia Award (Hamlet, Alcina, The Excursions of Mr. Brouček) and twice for the Jantar Award (Der Spuck im Schloss, Juliette).
She made her debut at the National Theatre in Prague, where she has since been a
regular guest. Her roles there include Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), the Queen of the
Night (The Magic Flute), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Frasquita (Carmen), Mařenka (The
Bartered Bride), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi/Don Buoso), and Madeleine (Ball im
Savoy), among others.
In 2024 she became a permanent member of the opera ensemble at the National
Theatre Brno, performing as Musetta (La Bohème), Morgana (Alcina), Málinka (The
Excursions of Mr. Brouček), Nannetta (Falstaff), Valencienne (The Merry Widow),
and Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro).
She also regularly appears on other opera stages: at the National Moravian-Silesian
Theatre (Juliette, Der Spuck im Schloss, The Emperor of Atlantis, The Broken Jug,
The Cunning Little Vixen), at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň (Hamlet, Idomeneo,
Carmen, Candide), and at the South Bohemian Theatre (Mefistofele, Jacobin). She
has also guest-starred in Krefeld, Germany, as Ophelia (Hamlet).
In 2025 she made her London debut, performing in a concert version of Janáček's The
Excursions of Mr. Brouček under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
Novotná is equally devoted to early music. With Musica Florea she performed in Jiří Antonín Benda's singspiel Der Jahrkmarkt. With Czech Ensemble Baroque she appeared at the Hudba Znojmo festival in Vivaldi's oratorio Juditha Triumphans and Handel's opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto. In collaboration with Collegium 1704 and the National Theatre Brno she created the roles of Morgana (Alcina) and Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro).
She has worked with leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava. She has performed under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Robert Jindra, Joseph Bastian, Christoph Koncz, Jan Kučera, Jaroslav Kyzlink, Giancarlo Andretta, Karsten Januschke, Petr Popelka, and Václav Luks.
Throughout her professional career she has collaborated with renowned directors including Robert Carsen, David Radok, Jiří Heřman, Miroslav Krobot, Alice Nellis, Rocc, Ondřej Havelka, SKUTR, Sláva Daubnerová, and Grischa Asagaroff
